you can have my spot if Laguna Seca Blue is ok with this. I feel like the shipping cost is high to Canada especially with the exchange rate it almost made the group buy not any cheaper for me and possibly even more expensive due to duty taxes. I can get them here for a certain price as well. however ..... I wont leave (Laguna Seca Blue stranded ... so if you don't take them I will just have to swallow it. thank you for your time gents. thanks. |

Sent the first batch of lights out today. A couple of people asked about the installation, so here's a very short DIY because it's not difficult at all. I've attached a picture of the tools you need, they are:
1. Flat head screwdriver 2. Ratcheting socket wrench 3. Socket driver 4. 8mm socket & 10mm socket Here's the DIY. The instructions are the same for the left and right side. I would recommend doing one side at a time so you can use the other side as a reference as you work. Outer 1. By hand, remove the panel behind the outer light in the trunk 2. Unplug the electrical connector by squeezing in the center and pulling back simultaneously. 3. Using the ratcheting socket wrench, remove the three 8mm bolts holding the light in. 4. Carefully remove the light by pushing in from the inside with one hand and guiding it out with the other. There should be no resistance whatsoever 5. To install, reverse these steps and follow the Depo specific instructions included with your lights. Make sure the electrical connector is properly seated by using both hands to push down. You'll feel/hear a little click when it's in all the way. Inner 1. Sit in the trunk of your car facing the inside of the liftgate 2. Remove the plastic trim piece (with interior light) behind the inner tail light by gently prying it out with a flat head screwdriver. There is a little indent on bottom of the plastic trim piece to stick your screwdriver in. Gently work it out by hand and then just let it hang. 3. Remove the electrical connector from the inner taillight. If you have big hands like me, it's a little tricky to squeeze and pull in the right place, but just be patient and you'll get it. 4. Using the socket driver, remove the one 10mm bolt holding the outer tail light in place. 5. You should now be able to remove the inner tail light. However, depending on the age of your car, it's very likely that the rubber weatherproofing has melted and transformed into an icky adhesive. If it doesn't come out easily, wrap your flat head screwdriver with a paper towel or electrical tape (so you don't damage the paint) and pry the light up from the side closest to your license plate. Make sure to remove all of that black gunk or your new lights won't seat properly. 6. To install, make sure the two clips on the new lights are properly hooked on the outside of the liftgate and then push down on the light with one hand from the outside as you're tightening the 8mm bolt from the inside. This is where I would use the other side as a reference. Don't forgot to install the electrical connector before you put back the plastic trim piece. There you go, all done

Looks great!
Do the new style light bars fade out as they turn off or do they shut off instantly like the originals? |

I'll have the cash PayPal'd to you in the next couple days
Oh... I tried to buy a '10 X5M MCB, my dream, 60k miles for $34,995 yesterday. Well it was at an uppity Lexus dealership that doesn't do much dealing with used cars. They said due to the airbag recall, they couldn't sell my car legally and it would have to go to auction. They tried to offer me $11k I said, alright well I'm pretty certain that M outside being one year newer than mine needs airbags too. So good luck with with all that. They couldn't even look into it being that the car came from Canada. You'd think they'd have done a little more research before having it on the lot for 32 days

Too bad the upgrade didn't work out. Strange they didn't know whether the X5M needed an airbag recall, they could easily run a Carfax/Autocheck. Actually, do those services work with Canadian cars, I don't know...

Payment was sent!
So yea with the M, there was a Carfax but it didn't mention anything about the recall. They must have called BMW the next day because I checked their site and AutoTrader where I found it and the listing had been removed. Really just pisses me off that they clearly hadn't researched that car before they took it in on a trade and offered it for sale. I hope they loose money on it now that they can't legally sell it from their lot or even send it to auction.

Too bad about the X5M, but enjoy the 4.8i. Life's too short for these first world problems You'll get your hands on an even better car if it's meant to be.

I have two sets of LCI taillights to compare. OEM Euro version and the DEPO version.
Comparatively, the DEPOs look great and fit perfectly for about half of the cost. The differences I have noticed is that the OEM version appears to have glowing edges on the light bars; whereas the DEPO light bars seem to be more solid in appearance thoughout: This subtle difference could also be related to the light output with resisters installed in the DEPOs. (The M will be getting the more expensive OEM version and the D will be getting the DEPOs). |
