Is the vehicle on level ground when you check the oil level?
It annoys me that i have to idle engine while i Drive takes forever to access oil level. I most definitely prefer a dipstick, just like a gauge w/ needle is better then an idiot light ! |

According to the BMW mechanic, this is normal because of the engine design. In fact they said it is those that do not happen should be worry. It could be due the problem did not pick up by the device.

Apparently, I asked my BMW Service Department, and they said it's normal for new BMW engines to eat oil because it's still breaking in for the first year. They also said it happening to mine at 10k is very good. They said the first quart oil top up is free before your first service. So I got a free quart.

My one year old 50i consumed 1liter oil/9000km until 32000km. Now I have reached 35000km and I have to add one more liter oil which surprised me. I assume I have already left the break in period and the oil consumption situation is not improved but degraded. I think my driving style is far from sporty, I use the extra power rarely. Is there information about the official factory oil consumption rate for the X6-5.0i engine?
