OK, replaced aux cable with a higher quality and sound significantly improved. BUT I still need about 3X volume knob rotations from oem normal to hear aux at comfortable sound. OEM Aux volume at max. Updated all APKs and carplay has sound, BUT also requires volume to be at 3X from oem normal...and I can now hear some static out of center speaker. All connections are sound. As mentioned in this thread somewhere issues arise when I'm connected to both oem and avin monitor BT. Carplay interaction is different depending on which BT I use...trying to figure out which is best. AND carplay itunes music keeps stopping after about 2-3s of play...
UPDATE 10FEB2018: With everything put back together I just re-assessed volume differential from oem to avin, the "3X" I posted above is WRONG. With car on, oem Satellite radio set comfortably, I switched to the Avin MUSIC menu and rotated the volume knob exactly 1X revolution to match oem volume (there is a tiny dot on the volume knob to orient you). Satisfied, I then randomly placed it in Reverse, the oem rear view came on and the Avin Music volume dropped to just about where it was before raising volume by 1X revolution. Out of reverse, turned PDC/Camera off, and Avin Music volume returned to where it was before setting it in reverse. SO...I wonder if my volume problem is actually a software issue???

I could have sworn that I'd read somewhere about deleting the aux in/USB in rhe armrest helped with sound as well. Argento, can you share details of said cord?

I also saw a thread/post mentioning a replacement aux module...not sure where I saw that....
The aux cable I'm now using is a SIIG, 2m Woven Fabric Braided, 3.5mm stereo aux cable, BPA1732XCB-AU0A12-S1...got it at Fry's Electronics...

I just ran across this...similar issues as I'm having...still reading...
http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...ht=aux&page=67 So I gather from this thread that my carplay issues are a bug that may or may not be in work right now by Avin. There appears to be a new update, with link in post 1526, but I'd like to hear from Avin...they've stopped answering questions.

Avin responded to my email.
1) They are launching a support site soon with all available uploads, DIYs, etc. 2) Regarding carplay itunes music turning off after 2-3 seconds every time, they recommend turning off BT. 3) "NO SIGNAL" may indicate the CIC connector is loose. 4) Regarding my low aux volume issue, the individual who emailed me 'heard' there would be a software solution for sound in March. UPDATE: I turned off BT on my iphone and started up carplay. It all worked well, itunes music played w/o turning off. However the sound is too low, poor quality sound compared to oem sound, default device window at startup every time, and static is heard through center speaker when siri speaks. I'm probably apt to continue using OEM BT, NAV, and sound until there is a fix.

This is a great thread. Last year i was tossing around the idea of doing a NBT retrofit but decided not to bc of the complexity of the installation and the price. I was pretty happy when i saw this option.

Got mine yesterday and installed in the evening. Overall very satisfied. Everything is up and running- now just trying to get a couple of things finalized. Happy to help those that are about to go through the install process if anyone has questions. Also if anyone knows answers to the following, I'd appreciate it.
Start-up: -Issue 1: Demo Videos tend to play everytime the car starts(bit annoying)- Any idea how to get this stopped? - Issue 2: Clock continues to reset to 24hr. I have set the time in both option menus to 12 hr- but in the deeper setting menu it defaults to 24 hr after a hard reboot. USB: I opted for the dual USB. 1 for a WiFI Stick thats dedicated and will auto tether with my phone (thanks for the idea on this this site- we'll see if it works). The other for Apple Car play. - Issue 3: When Apple Car play is plugged in- system gets stuck in some screen req'ing the phone to be plugged in. Anyone had this issue? At this point- with all the other options- I am not seeing a huge need for Carplay. I dont want to plug my phone in at all if i dont haae to. Any one else in the same boat?

Issue 1: Did you ask Avin for the install manuals? In that email, they sent; You can set the monitor to remember which UI menu to boot into each time your car starts. To set the monitor to boot into the Android Menu UI: 1. Open the Music Player 2. Now turn off the car and wait 45 seconds. 3. Turn the car back on and the monitor will remember to boot back into the Android menu each time. ===== To set the monitor to boot into the original BMW iDrive Menu UI: 1. Switch to the original iDrive menu any screen will be ok. 2. Now turn off the car and wait 45 seconds. 3. Turn the car back on and the monitor will remember to boot back into the original BMW iDrive Menu UI. Issue 2: Set clock to 'original time', this will use the oem time. You can also deselect 24hour in settings. Issue 3: I had this happen once or twice. Avin recommended the best way to use Carplay is without BT connected to OEM or to the Monitor (BT on your phone OFF). This seems to work, but I too will wait for the other fixes and just use OEM menus on a bigger screen. There is also a default window that keeps appearing...they are working on fix. Jeremy

Couple of questions:
1) it seems that my GPS on the android is hit or miss whether it registers... I used the splitter and the OEM side always works... does anyone have that issue? I really would hate to pull things out to figure out what's going on... 2) Time... the android side, even with use original time seems wonky... any idea why? 3) the AVINUSA site says it comes with Android 4.4.4 but I think my unit says android 3 something... do I need to get it updated? I was hoping to use Apple Music directly on the android side but needs at least android 4.... 4) Carplay- sometimes it asks for hookup even if nothing is hookedup... thanks drccw |

1. I had the same issue. When I used the standalone GPS and put the GPS right under the center speaker cover it worked without issue.
2. Still have this issue. 3. Pretty sure you have 4.4.4. Where did you see that you had 3? 4. I rarely use carplay (since I use waze), but didn't encounter this issue when I used it. |

1. It's possible the gps connection at the monitor is loose. Remove the vents and you should be able to press the connector without removing anything else.
2. I had the issue at first, but I kept selecting Original Time (2-3 times) and it finally stuck.

Initially I was going to opt for the NBT until I found out about this unit with very little discussing pros/cons. So good to know the feedback from this thread by far
