Oil Change Interval
I read a post on here about changes that had been to the policy on oil changes and what BMW will/will not pay. I am looking for clarification so my question is:
I am at 13 months / 6800 miles. Will they pay for the first maintenance? I will probably do it regardless as I tend to believe at least annually regardless of mileage. Thx |

Yes, it's 15000 miles or one year. Take it in to the dealer for the scheduled maint.
I will be changing my own oil at 1200 miles, then every 7500 there after. Every other change by dealer.

We'll see. That's not what I was told at delivery.

BMW reserves the right to change their policies at any time regardless of what they told you at delivery. I was told the same thing when I had my X5 and M3 serviced in August and September respectively. They still did the X5 for free but I had to beg to have the M3 done for free.
I can't wait to see what they'll do in a year. |

Maybe a class action lawsuit for false advertising could be in order

Just had my oil changed at 1766 miles and it was BLACK as coal... I mean you literally could not see thru it while it was draining.... The guy who did it (matt@camber-toe) couldn't believe how dark it was, and i only have the amounts of miles I typed above. Anyway... If BMW won't change it, then I have no problem going to an indy shop and letting them do it.
BMW doesn't care about the SAV while it's in warranty, it's when it's out of warranty that they'll start caring, because it means more money in their pocket..

Agreed. I planned to change mine anyway, at a far more frequent interval than recommended by BMW. However, I'm getting a little sick and tired of the "free scheduled maint." BS. It should read "we'll cover some maint but you won't want to buy a CPO with what we cover"

I do not really care about oil change intervals as I always ditch the car just before warranty expires. So, you should really warry about oil change if you plan to drive the vehicle till 100000+ miles.

Doing what you described just makes it worse for the person who picks up your ride afterwards... BMW does such a bad job and making sure their CPO's are in tip top shape, to have someone like you who doesn't care... I wouldn't be surprised if the person who picks up your vehicle after your done with it breaks down, because BMW didn't bother checking up on the vehicle after you were done abusing it...

I think the bigger issue will be down the road a few years, as CPO bimmers show the lack of maint provided under BMW scheduled maint. I'll be honest, if it's a lease that I don't plan to keep, I'm not paying extra for maint. As these start to break down, CPO bimmers will drop in value. Consumer reports, the holy Grail for many used car buyers, will catch them. When the prices drop on CPOs, residuals on leases will drop, making leases more expensive. Cheap leases are a huge sales driver for BMW. Sales will decline.
