i prefer Canon actually, but Nikon is good alternative. not sure on Sony at all, havent seen many people using them. Canon seems to be a good default choice for DSLRs these days.

Can't go wrong with the D90. I had a D70 prior to buying the 90 and it's faster and works great. You will love it, I think the best thing to do is go with a company that only makes cameras, either Nikon or Canon. Shy away from Sony, as cameras are really not their "wheelhouse" (in my opinion of course)

As for the Sony A series, they are also pretty good, but I don't like how the LCD pops out, its very prone to breaking in the long-run. Also the image stabilization is inside the camera body.. This can be both good and bad, good because the lenses for this camera would be cheaper since the image stabilization is integrated into the body, but also very very very bad if it were to break, you would basically be looking at getting another camera. I say that you stick with either the D80 or an 40D, but that clearly up to you, if you think you are going to really use the video feature, then go for either the D90 or 50D. Happy camera shopping! Let me know which one you decided to go with |

I love my D90. I just upgraded from a D50 and it's been awesome so far and does everything I need it to do. I wouldn't buy it based that it does HD movie, buy it for the camera and the HD movie is just a nice plus to mess around with.
It does seem a lot of people have gone Canon though recently, don't really know why. I already have various lens for Nikon so I'm probably staying there for a long time though.

Yes of course, the camera function is the most important but it would be nice to have the video function in hd so I don't have to tote extra equipment around.
