BMW X6 vs Cayenne GTS on Nurgburing test
http://www.bmwblog.com/2008/08/11/bm...rgburing-test/
Though internal memo says 18 MPG on the xdrive50i. Wonder how they came up with that number. |

Could be a hwy mpg number or maybe even a combined number after fully broken in and easy driving. I am getting 12.5 in city with a pretty heavy foot and only have 210 miles on odometer so will surely get better. |

I'll go with shenard most likely a highway or combined number but agree
with chuck no way is that city. Time ( and 50i owners) will tell what real number is. |

All three are rated at 13-18MPG. 15MPG average. Why they would show mixed rating for two and hwy for the BMW is anyone's guess. I bet an internal employee grabbed the X6 3.5 specs by mistake.

dmlgc, I'm not certain.I got to thinking about the fact that speed limiters are installed at the VPC on inbound German made BMW's.So....does that mean a European bound 50i X6 is tuned differently than a US bound 50i X6???? Where I'm going w/ this is, would the gas mileage be that different for the two cars.Because of EPA Regs here in the States and I guess similar organizations internationally....you would think MPG would be all over the board...based on each countries specific regs.Your right, the BMW Engineer I talked to was driving a Korean 50i X6.Interesting question that I don't have the answer to.I'll ask around and see what I can find out.Thanks.PalBay

PalBay,
I do know that my wifes 2006 330 came from Germany tuned as a German car. It went like hell and mpg was great, then we received a notice from BMW stating we had to take it to a dealer for a software download or the car would not be able to be registered. Well we took it in, after the download not as much zoom and mpg was less than before. So I think somethings do get tweaked for the US market. This may explain the "BS" mpg that we've heard. I will be curious what you find out. Last edited by dmlgc; 08-12-2008 at 12:00 PM.. Reason: grammar |

50i X6 Gas MPG
Hey guys I found this at Autocar.co.uk in an article written by Mike Duff.I have no clue where the 22.3 MPG referenced in the article comes from.He says it's from a BMW generated Marketing piece.I've not been able to find the referenced BMW marketing article online.I don't know if the 22.3 MPG refers to Hwy....combined??? Just don't know.Thanks. PalBay http://www.autocar.co.uk/blogs/anyth...22mpg-bmw.aspx

Palbay,
Autoweek had this piece which has 22 mpg combined, implies the estimate came from BMW ( claimed). Producing 400 hp at 5500 rpm along with 450 lb-ft of torque between 1800 rpm and 4500 rpm, the V8 delivers 50 more hp and 100 lb-ft of additional torque compared with the X5's naturally aspirated 4.8-liter V8. That's enough power to launch the X6 from 0 to 60 mph in just 5.3 seconds--faster than a 650i automatic--while giving it a top speed limited to 150 mph and a claimed combined fuel economy of 22 mpg. http://www.autoweek.com/apps/pbcs.dl...1581/1008/FREE of course still doesn't tell us if this was for US version or export version. Remember imperial gallons are 20% higher. I would say the facts are wrong out there. It is quite common to have the wrong info in the automotive press. Common sense suggests even with Batman and Robbin tuning kit, no way the truck would get 18 mixed, let alone 22.

I have found dividing gallons used by miles driven the best way to measure. The onbaord computer on the gauge display is fairly accurate. The trip computer one can be 3-5 miles on the high side.

'Chipping' the turbo'd engines will make the computer MPG readings inaccurate as the ECU is fooled into injecting more fuel than it thinks it is doing. So you will get optimistic MPG readings if you go that route. |

I see the results of the ring test have been published.
BMW X6 xDrive50i put in a best lap of 8min 54.4 seconds, but the Cayenne GTS was left crawling behind beyond the 9 minute barrier and more than 7 seconds a drift with a time of 9 mins 1.9 seconds. |
