35d versus 35i
I was sent a 35i last week to compare with my 35d, and finally try and answer the question of which is the better engine for the X6. It has been a fascinating comparison and we will publish our conclusions next week (in Drivers Republic).
One aspect I had not expected to draw conclusions on was concerning the chassis. My 35d has Active Drive with self-levelling rear suspension whereas the 35i was standard and I was pleased to discover that Active Drive is very much an essential option. Without Adaptive Drive the X6 35i exhibited noticeable body roll, it felt unsettled over the bumps in the road and most importantly the DPC rear differential was much less evident (or exploitable). Even the steering within my adaptive drive optioned X6 felt more incisive and communicative. The difference between them was chalk-and-cheese with so many advantages and no downsides, apart from the price, but I would not hesitate to choose adaptive drive again after now having the opportunity to compare them side-by-side. I will leave my comparisions between the engines to be published in the main article and I will re-start a debate to consider whether turbo-petrol or turbo-diesel offers the more sporting drive. It's been an interesting test, but you will be pleased to hear that it's not a black and white decision and each appealed for slightly different reasons. |

hmmm i dont know how much l/100 has the 35i. But i've read an article yesterday and it claimed 10,3/7,0/8,0 fuel consumption ( thats city/highway/mid? ) for 35d. Its almost same that i have in my X5. But 35d goes almost same as 35i and a chiptuned one ( 358hp ) should easily beat the 35i and it would still have the same fuel consumption.
This diesel is very nice |

The 3.0 TT is rated at 300HP, but really is closee to 340HP. A chipped diesel most likely will be closer to 380HP. The V8 TT is probably closer to 440HP. A dymo test well tell you for sure.

I think it would be equivalent to about 475-480hp and around 530lb-ft of torque give or take a few...
They are also claiming to reduce the fuel consumption at the same time....

That is about the same level that Steve Dinan told me he was looking to achieve with his initial tune that should be available in a few months or less.
