Car Wash question - best drying towel you've used?

I also like the “El Gordo” towels from Chemical Guys that do an excellent job. They are two sided and extra thick.

Best towel is NO towel. Ceramic coated cars really dont need to be dried w a towel. A good strong leaf blower is the best drying method, bar none.

Use a good quality MF towel to blot dry any leftover water or drips, and you're done.

Deionized Water for rinse after 2 bucket wash, use detailing spray while drying with waffle towels...

Agreed. Any battery operated or plug-in leaf blower is the best! It even gets the water out of places or crevices where the towel would allow it to normally sit.

Lol I'm not that advanced,I still use my 10yr old 2-stroke backpack/landscaper version leaf blower.

Neighbors think I'm nuts,but it works awesome especially if your vehicle is ceramic coated

A leaf blower alone won't dry the car folks, even if it's ceramic coated. You still need a towel. Also, once you move the car (from the driveway back into garage) more water magically appears. You have to dry that as well...with a cloth. The exception is if you wash the car with filtered water. These forum myths are wild!

Clark_Kent is correct. In addition, the blower may blow dirt/debri out of cracks and onto your newly washed vehicle which could lead to your imparting scratches, if you touch up with a towel afterward. Rinsing with distilled or de-ionized water would be considered the best overall method. Otherwise, I personally consider drying with two towels and a drying aid to be extremely safe and my favorite method, as a former professional Detailer and enthusiast.

The lead towel will always be wet/damp, as it's used to get up the majority of the water. You'll immediately follow up with a dry towel in getting up any remaining water. Dry the vehicle in sections.

Using a damp towel as the lead towel and a drying aid, makes towel drying an extremely safe method. You're much more likely to impart scratches into your paint during the washing process or by following up with towels after having used a blower.

I use one of these , this towel is amazing ! Just open it up lay it on the hood and drag it . No pressure needed and completely drys the whole car . I bought a second one to finish the touch up’s. No way of scratching the paint.

If your car was ceramic'ed then nothing other than the 8HP Metrovac Air Force Master Blaster. Guarantee you dont need tower ever. Take a bit longer than tradition tower but fully worth it. Have been using it over 10 years and enjoy the moment using it.

I agree. I have one of these towels from a different company. Drag it with no streaks. New technology - twisted pair microfiber. I keep forgetting to use my DeWalt battery leaf blower. Just DIY with Adam’s Advance Ceramic coating; looking forward to great washing results.

I've used Cobra waffle weave towels in the past and they don't even come close. They're still better than an old school chamois though.


If you're using a good coating or si02 based wax then I'll second the ego leaf blower option. Less touching is best of all.

I second the Griot's towel. Can nearly dry my entire F150 Super Crew without ringing it out.

I used to use my Milwaukee M18 blower for drying duty. It sort of worked. I recently bought an Ego 765 CFM blower to go with their strong trimmer and lawn mower.... It's like ah ing your own personal drying machine, it's on another level good. Absolutely recommend it.

Costco has an 800cfm Greenworks for like $200 as well. No experience with it, but considered it since it's $100 cheaper and claims more CFM than the Ego.

Depends on the blower and if you get the water out of the crevices with it. You can absolutely dry a car with a blower in WAY less time than you can with a towel. Could you have to catch a few drips after you move it? Maybe. But you'd have tondo that with a towel too. I'd much rather blow it dry and catch a couple drops that have to risk swirling the paint with a towel.

I’ve used the Meguiars drying towel XL for the past couple of years. Happy with the results, and still on the same one. They clean quite easily, and I do it after every wash.
I was going to try that duo twist one next
