10.25" Android Screen, microphone problem
Hi
I installed a 10.25" Quad Core Android 7.1 Car dvd player to my 2007 BMW X5 E70, but I realized that the microphone while doing any phone call is low and barely hear me clear. Is there a way to add any external microphone to this device? Thanks

some tips:
just use u car's built in microphone, the one which comes with the unit isn't good, I would also recommend use car's phone capabilities vs Android and don't forget to disconnect the bluetooth on Android!

But my car comes without built-in microphone, So I will replace it with another alternative like Bluetooth In-Car Speakerphones.
Thanks

+1 on using the OEM bluetooth for voice chat. My son using the Android BT for the music stream only.
The built in mic on that unit is horrible. Just installed mine a week ago, and i love it. |

You can take the unit apart and run an external mic from the signal leads. The current mic is in the middle right edge of the screen. I just cut the leads on mine because I didn't want the unit to try and automatically use it at all, it's trash and use BT phone functionality from the OEM side.
The disassembly is much like a cell phone where you have to take screws holding both pieces together out then run a plastic tool between the two parts around the edge to separate the clips. |

Bt streaming - Android calling
How do you use the cars original BT for calls and still use android for streaming music?
I've set mine up so it uses my cars Bluetooth for calls because the microphone on the android side is terrible but now I can't stream music on the android side. When I press on 'phone' it takes me back to the idrive screen for my phone |

I currently have an AVIN, but have recently ordered a snapdragon monitor. On my Avin, I have android BT OFF and OEM BT ON. With my device paired to OEM BT, I can play music from my phone (via Media>External Device). I then tap the screen to switch to the monitor, usually to display Waze. When I do, the music continues to play. I have carplay and it displays the correct song. I was doing it this way b/c I didn't like the audio output from the monitor to the OEM Aux Input. I can also hear Satellite radio (via Radio>Satellite Radio) in this manner. I get calls via the OEM BT. This happens with or without me connected to the carplay dongle.
If I'm not connected via Media>External Device (IE: my phone isn't streaming music to oem BT, but I can still be connected) and I start in the Avin Monitor and play my music using Carplay (meaning I've physically connected my phone to the carplay dongle), the audio comes through the OEM Aux Input, which is lesser quality. And I read a post here that I can use a DAC via the USB output for much better audio quality via the Aux Input...I plan on trying this on my new monitor.

I didn't know about these before. Just been looking them up and seen some with Aux and mic on. Should this work for upgrading the mic on the head unit too? The built in mic is terrible |

Man, I don't know...are you suggesting a usb mic? It's worth a try. I saw a video on here somewhere showing a comparo between the Avin screen and 4x4 screen...both from china, but obviously different manufacturer's. Anyway, the video showed the avin mic, button size, 28ga wires or smaller, and it appeared to be shrouded by the monitor case. What if you remove the back cover, pull it out and let it hang outside just to see if it makes an improvement?

I’m interested in getting one of these Android units for my new 2012 X5M. Anybody have any issues with overheating? My dash gets super hot in the TX summer heat. Wasn’t sure how these displays hold up in serious dash heat.
PS- new to the forum. New BMW owner. Go easy. (For now) |

Welcome. I'm in Houston and have had one in my dash since 2018 with no heating issues. Of course I use a windshield screen, but I think that's 101 for down here. I just upgraded earlier this year, so have not really tested out the new unit. Screen looks great and if you can overcome some of the annoyances, based on your subjective expectations, it's worth it. I have some posts in my build thread about questions/answers from a vendor and installation notes. I also hit up taking sound to the next level, but haven't completed my adventure there.
