Purchasing a used x6M?
Hi everyone, I'm interested in purchasing an x6m. I found one locally and it's a 2011 with almost 100,000 kms (60,000) miles. I've been in contact with the seller and asked about the maintenance that has been performed recently, and they've only changed the brakes and battery. My question is, if I were to pull the trigger on this, what kind of maintenance expenses could I be getting myself into? I would assume that the spark plugs, coils , gasket, would probably need to be changed relatively soon. Is there any other significant maintenance expenses that I should be concerned about? Thanks!

better to check for faults in the system, checking its turbo and piping condition radiators as well, better to check if its looking like been overheated before, better to check its all electronics in cabin to see if they re working properly cause if some not, can be a reason a module or more complex problem it can be expensive, there were some recalls in the past checking if they ve been replaced from the service history, if tires are not brand new better to take a look to their state cause its a heavy vehicle it can show a problem clearly, better to check air suspension components to see if there are some worn out parts, diff checking by full steering lock turns can show if there is a problem before inspection, better to check for some leaks, there can be some leaks its not that bad but it depends on the amount and the part itself.. first things came to my mind..

Find a E71 X6M past 100,000 miles, and dealer-serviced. My 2010 X6M with 105,000 was fully sorted out. All I had to do, was update the CIC iDrive GPS maps, buy four new tires and 4-wheel alignment:
~ Index 11 fuel injectors upgrade(Dealer goodwill) ~ Water pumps(Mechanical, two electric) ~ Alternator, AGM battery ~ Differential fluids(3) ~ Rear air suspension struts ~ Front lower control arms, steering end links ~ Brakes, rotors, fluid ~ A/C serviced ~ SRS Airbag recall performed ~ FRM replaced(Recall) ~ Turbo coolant lines ~ Filtered air partitions ~ Coolant reservoir/cap ~ Heads-up display replaced ~ Valve cover gaskets replaced ~ Spark plugs and coils replaced ~ Aux fan switch replaced ~ Fuel vent hose/filter replaced ~ Cabin air filters replaced ~ Engine air filters replaced ~ Oil changes every 5000-7500 miles, with 5w-40 Synthetic oil only

IMPORTANT! To assess the terrible premature valve guide wear problem common to the N63 engine that the M's and 50i's all have. Once you've taken the X6 for the test drive, return to the sellers house/dealer. keep the engine running for 5-7 minutes after your test drive. Then, stand behind the vehicle. Ask the seller to hop in and rev the engine. If smoke comes out of the exhaust pipes, the engine is burning oil.

I’m at 110,000 km on a 2013... basically a routine maint vehicle for me.... plugs every 50,000 km.... changed all fluids at 100,000 Km...
Dealer serviced for 6 years... now it’s my Indy and Me... Easy to work on with respect to filters, brakes and fluids... Currently pissing around with an android screen upgrade... Life goes on... Last edited by Bilbofraggins; 08-31-2020 at 09:51 PM.. |
