Doing a search here netted me nothing, so now I'm just going to ask...anyone heard of this?

https://store.vacmotorsports.com/mob...x6m-p2457.aspx

Seems pretty lofty claims from a plug in module. I'm also curious who's X5M they're talking about with a built engine reaching past 850hp. I found this while trying to search for a urbo timer since I've never heard of one used in our application but I know their benefit from past cars, so I'm going to go search for that now :-)

VAC motorsports is a pretty respectable company. They have been around for a long time. Have you looked into this any further?

When I read "up to" in thousand dollar parts, I lose all interest...for that kind of money I expect concrete results. I even made an agreement with my tuner and didn't pay full price until I could dyno prove his gains.

I think the term "plug and play" is a big plus though, considering the pain you would go through installing a JB4.

m5james, do you have a build thread for your truck, I hear you're running pure stage 2? Any luck on the M5 turbo manifold, etc?

if you read through on that, it says the install 'takes about 3 hours' Plug and play is selling it as something people may not think it is. Seems to be something similar to the JB4, its just a piggyback on the sensors to make more power.

Good spot...nothing is ever easy. "Plug and Play" was meant to mean that you don't have to tune it yourself, just plug it all in...which takes 3hrs apparently.

I was slightly intimidated initially by the JB4 install, but having done it once, I'd say it can be done in an hour...it's actually quite easy and has been totally worth it.

I should start a build thread but I'd wanna see an example so I can make sure I'm doing it right :-) I'm not running Pure stage 2's yet since allmotor2000 (F10 M5 owner who was in the 9's) sold them when he sold his car, so I'm back to square one. I'm currently running what's on my signature below. I've got an x-pipe, Vibrant 1794 resonators, a dual catch san setup and M5 headers still sitting in boxes...The first two I'll install before Bimmerfest in June, the last two I probably won't do until I source another set of turbos. My next step is to be adding meth and adjusting the JB4 for that.

you know, being is the 'business' for all these years, I have heard all these stories on BMW's, and the more I wrench on them, the more I believe people are just scared of everything.

I guess people have never had the pleasure of doing Ford 6.0 head gaskets in the truck in a full shift of work.

thanks for bringing this thread to light and to the guy who revived it nearly 2 yrs later

my question is can this work with the BMW JB4 as a compliment or are these direct competitors in the sense they do the same things in different ways??

I'm also wondering about VAC motorsports piggy back because the JB4 isn't made anymore. I'm getting into the x5m game pretty late. Anything on this?

You can buy the n63 jb4 and fit it on the s63 and just upload the firmware. I just did one

Is it working like any other JB4, canbus and all? I just don't want any drivability or tuning issues if BMS isn't supporting it, but I really like the JB4 set up on my N55 and would love to have it on my S63.

If anyone from BMS is on here or if anyone can clarify please chime in. How's the JB4 functioning and is it worth the cost?

I have no first hand knowledge of the tuning, but what I have heard is YES it is worth the cost. I wonder if I could turn off all the limp codes in the system with JB4.

The JB4 will clear the limp mode off the dash but the ECU still keeps itself in limp mode until you turn the engine off/on cycle.

I did some experimenting by logging in limp mode and it seems like the ECU keeps the car from boosting at all ... JB4 still asks for correct targets just get no boost - There has to be some way to reset completely but I haven't found out how yet.

JB4 is defiantly worth it ... I have been running around on the E30 map and am quite pleased

Are these the same limp modes associated with catless downpipes? Have you guys heard anything about Racechips tuner? The F-series x5m and x6m are having some pretty good luck with these as well as the AMG and VW guys. What are u guy's thoughts?

these limp modes are associated with things that are not performing in the BMW specified thresholds, but in the real world work ok. Mine will limp from time to time, and with no reason I can feel see or hear other then the computer sees some pid falling off ever so slightly.

I am not sure if a catless downpipe would cause a truck to limp, I do know it would have a CEL without tuning.

i bought this from VAC and ran it for about a year. yep just like you said, it bypasses a few connections and tricks out the ecu. the time involved is because the connectors to jump/bypass are in the most annoying places. i took mine off and will probably sell in the next month or two, probably list on ebay and on the for-sale thread.

it had noticeable gains as the pulls were harder but i have no dynos to offer the difference from stock.
