Tires for a 2012 X5 xDrive35i Premium
Hello All,
I need your advice once more. It is time to change the tires of my 60K miles 2012 X5 xDrive35i Premium. I have called Les Schwab, America’s tire, and the dealership and they given me some quotes, some opinions, but nothing that will help me make a decision. It is very surprising given the cost of the tires. I am looking for a run flat tire, that will give me equivalent or better performance, with a good life. I live in Oregon so it needs to do well in rain and light snow. I do not speed (anymore), but I do take long trips on roads with plenty of tight curves. Do you have any good advice? JRRdz |

Here is what I have found out reading on-line reviews:
Continental 4x4 Contact SSR - Low life: one review has them at 35K miles, another review has them at 14K miles Bridgestone Dueler H/L 400 RTF - Turns X5 into a drift car - Low life Pirelli Verde A/S - Bad handling in rain - 17K miles range So…… I have not been able to find a good option. Any recommendations? |

It's difficult to find the best performing tires when they are runflats. It looks like the best reviewed are the Continentals and the Pirellis, with the Pirellis better performing across the board but with lower longevity. I've always gone with Michelins, but without being RFT...I'm disappointed to read that their RFTs in this application aren't the best. If you're looking for long lasting with good performance go the OE route with the continentals, I'd personally go performance and do the Pirellis...they are $190 per on discountedwheelwarehouse.com

Sory for the delayed response, but I wanted to test them a little bit before sharing my review. The good news is that a heavy snow storm in Portland allowed me to use them in different scenarios. Do note that the tires are still new, and I am a very careful driver.
Dry traction: Good – Same as Continental Wet traction: Good – Same as Continental Snow traction: Good – Same as Continental Slosh traction: Good – Same as Continental Ice tracktion: Good – Same as Continental Hard cornering: Not tested High speed: Not tested Hope that this helps. |
