Update: It's been 6 months since I had the campaign work done and so far so good, truck is running strong BUT...she still has a drinking problem. This will be the second time in 6 months I have to add a few quarts of oil...intervals should of been changed to 5k miles instead of 10k

Just the price of admission to get 400+ HP and 450+ lb-ft out of 4.4L. I'll happily feed it a quart every 1000 miles if it doesn't blow up on me. |

What kind (brand) of oil are you guys feeding the X?
BMW name brand only, or xxxx brand as long as it meets BMW Long Life specs? What is allowed after the N63 CCP has been done?

That's one of the facts we have so many problems after 50k miles.

But if you are adding a quart every 1k miles, the oil is pretty much continuously being replaced.
I personally haven't seen my level move off the 'full' mark at all in 3k miles. Will keep watching it. Honestly I am more concerned with my battery's charge!

I don't know about the above....
My 1998 M3 burned oil too, common for that model, and I was adding more oil than most of the X5 owners here claim. I just stuck with Mobil-1 synthetic, and I slacked on changing it fully BECAUSE I was adding oil all the time. [Fun fact - on that car you could replace the oil filter on top of the motor separately from having to drain the oil] Anyway the new owner pulled the valve cover off it to replace a leaky gasket and could not believe how clean everything looked, with 148k miles. It was so remarkable that he sent me a pic of the cams. This car saw track days and higher revs than the X5 ever gets... and is now a fully dedicated track car for the new owner. So I think 5k mile changes are kind of a waste of money, with the quality of current synthetic oils. More important to keep the level correct than to replace the oil before its used up. But to each his own, whatever you are comfortable with.

my recall service was done in Match, it's been 5k+ miles, the oil level has shown full, it used to consume ~1 qt every 1200 miles before the recall, used to get 'too much oil' warning when overfilled, now it just shows perfectly full level,
i worry if the oil level sensor is functioning. |

the problem.....the tech at my dealer used to overfill N63 engine maybe due to so many customers complaining oil-level low after 2-3k miles after service. but overfilling will kill CCV. Now after the customer care package campaign(where they replaced both my CCVs, MAF etc) they don't do it any more. and of course my turbo coolant hoses start dripping slowly. It just never ends with this N63 V8. BMW V8 is still cursed all the way to Nikasil alloy thingy, amazing. No wonder Honda never builds a V8 |

I've owned the 50i for a year now as of today...We've put around 11k miles on her (59k) in the past year and so far so good. We spent $4k on an extended third party warranty and have used it once so far...BMW refused to honor it(surprise surprise)a waste of money imho. Besides carrying around and feeding her a few quarts of oil every 2-3k miles, repairing the comfort access(needed to be re-coded) it's been a pretty reliable and fun truck to own. For all the N63 horror stories you read about, I guess it's like playing the lottery...you either pick a good 1 that puts a smile on your face every time you drive it or you sit home ranting n raving on forums how BMW f@*ked you

How can BMW refuse it if all they have to do is repair and warranty company pays? Or you pay and get reimbursed, no? |

The warranty company sent 1 of their guys out to BMW of Greenwich where the N63 Campaign work was being done and a few other things I needed repaired... my SA called me and told me they wanted to bring the truck to a mom n pop shop to get fixed instead because BMW charges too much...he pretty much said they wouldn't cover the cost to fix any of the problems except for the leg extension motor in the drivers seat being replaced |

I've bought over 10 BMW's from my dealer and have a pretty good relationship with my SA... he gave me a nice discount since I decided to let them do the repairs instead |

Often times these warranties are pro-rated: i.o.w. you should be able to get your money back for the time-portion you haven't used. Did you try that? Then shop around for a 3rd party warranty that does work, like Route 66 ...
