Are people delusional?
So I'm casually looking for a spare set of 20s for my X5 and I come across this beauty on eBay.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-x-BMW-20-3...-/151094263965 "It's in good condition with only a few kerb marks." Seriously? Do people think X5 wheels are made out of gold? Maybe I just got spoiled on the M3 side where you can pickup a brand new set of takeoffs (with tires and TPMS) any day of the week for under $2k. /rant

Agreed. OEM wheels are nice but BMW owners seem to think the "replacement cost" of the wheels sold by the dealer should somehow influence the FMV of a used wheel.
1. Used OEM cast one-piece wheels are not worth a whole lot unless they are super rare 2. Dealer prices for OEM wheels are re-fucking-tarded. 3. I can tell you from experience this phenomena is exclusive to BMW. Audi, Mercedes, Japanese...nothing else comes close. Used wheel markets are very reasonable for the other brands. |

Here's another fantastic example of craziness. http://www.ebay.com/itm/4-Genuine-OE...-/200954646229 $4,200 for refinished wheels, with "OK" tires. They've got a few sets like these listed (none of which have sold in the last few months) and they still won't budge on their price.

OP, do you run snows in the winter here in Denver? I'm highly considering a 2011 or 2012 50i, and by far my favorite wheels are the 20" sport activity (336?), but I'm not crazy about the idea of having to switch out wheels twice a year. Suppose I got a nice set, what would be a fair price? Or are you looking only for the m-sport version only?
BTW, that wheel you linked to is in the UK... |

I've noticed OEM wheels are pretty expensive on here as well - I always figured it was due to how rare they are, meaning there aren't many wheel FS threads around here at all. Versus a 3 series/M3 forum where you've got a lot more traffic, and a lot more FS threads, wheels especially. |

BTW, which wheel you choose will depend on which X5 you buy. The staggered wheels (300, 333, 336, 223, 214, 215, etc...) will require an X5 that has fender flares (or you'll need to add them). The normal 19s are non-staggered, and can be used on any X5...the rears will just appear to be inset a bit on X5s with flares.

There is always someone, somewhere who will think this is a good deal and will pay the price. It takes longer to sell things that way but there is always someone. Once I made a mistake in advertising the sale price for a sound processor - the amount was $25 less than one could get a new one for. This was a two year old unit and believe it or not it sold for the asking price.
It looks like he knows what he is doing with 740 and 99.7 positive feedback. Heck, he even ships to the US |

It's indeed a bit mental. But there are a lot of X5 owners who didn't get a the Sport or M Sport package who want their SUVs to look upgraded. Aftermarket wheels on the X5 are more hit than miss and if you want good looking wheels, you'll end up spending bit bucks. The OEM wheels are still your best bet, and yes, they are stupid expensive. Might as well get some reps from eBay.

Another good one.
"What you see is what you get" - meaning 1 silver wheel and 3 black ones? http://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-E70-X5-E...-/261451028748 And that price...
