"Minor damage" on Carfax - concern?
I'm considering ordering a 2012 50i from an out of state BMW dealer but it has an accident described as "very minor damage" on the Carfax. There are pictures of before it was fixed and it looks like just some front bumper damage which is now replaced. Should I be concerned? Only has 15k miles and is a fairly good deal but I worry how much harder it will be to sell some day with that. Thoughts? It has all the options and colors I want.

Just make sure you get a good deal cause when you go to sell it will deduct from sale whether trade or private. Carfax has people trained to be suspect of any accident on the report.

You must have the car inspected. I bought a car with supposed minor damage only to find out later the whole car had been repainted and poorly. The clear coat started peeling after a year.. Ended up losing my ass. Btw a car cannot be cpo if it's been in a wreck because it's no longer original paint

I guess as long as it passes inspection it's deemed good to go.

Not exactly accurate. There are rules to the extent of paint/damage. There are plenty of CPO cars with repairs/paint. Just b/c paint doesn't mean bad. just need to be inspected. Bumper re-sprays don't bother me. Scratched panels (ie cosmetic repairs not on carfax) don't bother me. Accidents on Carfax, big or small I usually pass due to resale concerns.

Negative Ghostrider! You will regret it, when it's your time to sell or trade it in. There are great deals to be had everywhere!

Just use what you're seeing on the Carfax as an indicator that you'll need to do a VERY VERY proper inspection before deciding to buy. Of course, but an independent place, not the BMW dealership. |

I believe (don't quote me on this) that up to three panels can be repainted and the vehicle will still receive CPO certification. |

Thanks everyone. I'm supposed to hear back from them today if they will accept my offer. Anyone happen to live near Greensboro NC and want to take a look at it for me?
I do feel a lot better that they actually had taken pictures of "before" they fixed the front lower bumper. The front right silver accent bar had actually broken off. Now they replaced the whole front bumper and it looks good as new. I know there are a lot out there, but very very few have the options that I want with low enough miles. Still can't believe how many people order these expensive SUVs and don't spring for the upgraded seats, arguably the most important upgrade there is. |

So I went ahead and pulled the trigger. It was down to that one and another that had 31k miles, no tech package, same price but included CPO.
They are CPOing it for $2k and it's also "carfax certified" so they'll buy it back if it was wrecked. Only has 15k miles and in service 5/12 so I get over 4 total years of warranty on a car I plan to keep long(ish) term. Just couldn't pass up a car that perfect, black/black, over $78k msrp. Honestly I like that it has a brand new lower front bumper, since that's the place that gets the most wear on the exterior anyway, at least on my car. I'll post impressions when it gets here. |

Looks like now they have the updated photos online with the new front lower bumper and tires. I saved a copy of the old pics with the damage that I can show to someone if I end up selling it later.
