Exclamation 2012 X5 35d w/ 18,000KM Engine Problems - What to do?

We recently bought a new 2012 BMW x5 35d. Only had it for like 18,000 km, 9 months. Last week I tried starting it and it was shaking and wouldn't start for a minute and then said to take it to the dealer asap. Took it back to the dealership and they said that the car might need a new engine and some other small things (fuel injectors, plugs, filters etc changed) here and there. I am wondering what the best thing to do is if the car does indeed need a new engine.

I never thought a BMW diesel engine would have to be replaced after such a short period of time and I am wondering if the car is a lemon? If I can expect to experience other problems with the car in the future?

From what i have been reading, it seems like the electrical has been the main concern, but there has not really been any problems with the engines with other drivers. What is the best thing to do? Thanks in advanced for your responses!

If possible and does need an engine. I would get rid of the suv. This new and
such a major problem, does not lend to future good service.

All that has to be torn out to replace and trying to get it all hooked back up
properly. No way

Thanks for the response, maybe there is a law or clause in the warranty that will allow for a replacement. I don't think they would just give me a new one though, and if I sell it, the depreciation on the car will be killer.

I wouldn't worry about it, BMW is replacing the engine..so you have a brand new 0km engine and 60,000km left on warranty. Take the new engine and drive it for awhile and see how it goes if you have further issues then ditch it.

^exactly.

I always wonder why people are worried about their cars when it's still under warranty. That is what a warranty is for. You'll get a loaner until it's fixed and you'll have a brand new engine, installed by BMW. What more can you ask for?

Obviously don't keep it out of warranty though.

I guess my concerns are as follows: 1) resale value - we have no idea how long we are going to keep the car for and because it was bought brand new, the depreciation is going to be really high and we will shoulder a big hit on the car regardless... 2) It has been such a short amount of time and I don't want there to be non-stop problems with the car where I am always taking the car in to get it fixed.
