Weight difference, yes. And keep in mind its NYC, everybody here drive, like they just stole they car. Not mentioning the traffic nightmare. Plus I have BMW tune up, so I have instead of 400 hp i have 450. I guess they just tweaked the ECU. |

Gaucho (from Argentina?) I don't believe you, but . . . if true I'm very happy because it means that my 35d will be getting comparable mileage when it hits 15K miles. Did you measure the 30 on the downhill section of the trip?

I agree with you and that is one of the big reasons - among many others - I bought my 35d. My Xd does not need an 8 speed transmission, the gearing of the 6 is perfect for the power curve of the engine. The engine itself is just phenomenal and I for one don't feel the need for a better one. Some people must have the latest and perhaps for those the "dated" X5d is not cool enough so they must buy something else - that's too.

I recently got 29.7mpg driving at 65 mph and a tach reading of 1850. At 70-74 mph I have gotten 26=27 mpg. The fuel you use will also impact your mpg. On mixed driving in city and highway I have averaged about 23-24 mpg. I documented the 29.7 by taking a picture of the screen so if anyone doubts my statements I would be glad to send them the picture. Last edited by BMWX54SFV; 04-06-2013 at 09:33 PM.. |

With my fill up today my calculated fuel mileage was 10.14 liters/ 100kms which is 23.2 mpg US. This is comprised of 50/50 city driving and highway at 75-80 mph. Needless to say, I am very pleased with this mileage from such a large vehicle. I do use Stanadyne diesel additive which seems to increase the mileage about 10%.

Just a quick question, having 20 inch option wheels with wider tires makes a difference on fuel consumption?
Mine makes 20.1 mpg 80% city with alot of stop/go and short trips. 2012 x5d with 1293 miles. |

LA to San Diego, about 98 mile drive 75-80 mph speed 25.5 mpg I have 20 inch wheels on my X5d 5 passengers: 3 adults/2 kids A/C on at all times. Acceptable mpg considering its size/class. |

Folks, don't post the numbers taken from a trip's length of 100 miles. Just not serious, as anyone can get an mpg number they desire by choosing a certain road.
Post your range on a single tank of fuel. For those new, my 1.5 yrs of owning 35d sums up to this: 460 miles in 90% city driving on a tank of fuel until fuel warning displays (which means there's about 2 gallons left) 575 miles on a tank (until fuel warning) on out of town road trips. |

Ha ha, you wish :-)
That's computer's estimation after you came down Snoqualmie pass. You were probably getting 35mpg while descending form the pass, filled up, and the computer was thinking you would continue with those high MPGs, therefore gave you this rather optimistic MPG estimation. Drive to Spokane and back, then let me know if you made it on a single tank of diesel (you can easily do it, btw). |
