H&R Sport lowering springs
Hey guys,
The EXFYVEM is going through another makeover and I'm dropping it. Since this is going to be a cruiser from now on, I'm looking at taking the cheaper way out and getting H&R lowering springs. I want the big drop, so the "sport" springs with the 2in drop were what I was thinking. Any advice on these? Ride quality? Self-Lowering or not? Thanks!

My friend installed them on his X5M and took them of a few weeks later. He said they were too bouncy, but that may because of the self leveling suspension. He has them for sale if your interested in trying them out.

I agree that they're very bouncy and not a good fit for the sophisticated suspension of these cars. We plan to upgrade to KW v3's before too long since we still want it to look low without losing the ride quality. They're a good quick-fix sort of thing though I suppose.

I agree on the above., as I also just installed the H&R springs with links in the rear. Its getting better.. but when you have people in the car your nervous to hit any dips cause they may shatter a tooth. I think I need to adjust the rear links a bit, as I believe that is the reason for most of the ruff ride.
PS., I'm on 22's. The 22s with stock suspension felt the same as the stock 19s with stock suspension btw..

Do you have the 1.2" drop springs or the 2" drop springs? Please elaborate between these two when posting reviews of how rough it is. I wonder if the 1.2's are bearable since they actually drop 1.75" stead of 1.2" because they are rated for the 3.0 motors weight.

KW v3 all the way. Fully adjustable dampening, rebound and height adjustment... Can be dialed in as comfy as stock or stiff like a track car.

ill switch to coil overs eventually, I'm just doing it as a temporary fix more for looks than anything and couldn't justify spending the extra 3k after all the money I've spent this month. Im slapping some 22's on there and wrapping it in an "interesting" color. All the work will be done by this wednesday, ill post some pics when it gets done. Thanks for the input!

the work we'll be doing on the X5m is about 11k+ right now......we were debating wether to put the ADV1 wheels on =9K..or do exterior mods.....the wheels i couldnt see spending that much on them..but they do look good tho...hopefully with the V3 were putting on it will give the aggressive look yet sporty ride with the stock 20" it has. |

I need to come back and say that we just put 22's with Pirelli PZero Nero tires on the car and it rides way, waaaay better than it did with those hard runflats. I still say do it right and go coilovers (I wanted a quick fix I guess...lol) but now at least I don't hate the springs too badly.

haha.. yes, these springs blow! Not just H&R, but I think any spring on this SUV. I'm not sure what its like on on smaller wheels, as I have 22s. But the ride is smooth only if the road is smooth. Get used to being embarrased if you have guests in your car..
And this is coming from a guy who has lowered every single car I own. The only thing that might make it more tolerable is if I adjust the rear drop links. Maybe they are too low.. if that works it would be a miracle.

Just lowered mine E71, horrible ride bouncing everywhere. Going to take it back tomorrow to the shop to be adjusted otherwise am either doing the coilovers or putting back the stock springs. It sure looks good with my Hamann wheels but does not ride well at all.

I must APOLOGIZE.. Ever since installing these H&R springs (1.2" kit, lowered much more though), I've bashed them left and right. Today, got off my ass and adjusted the rear links that were included in the kit. I ended up adjusting them a tad longer, in essence increasing the height of the rear of the car.
SO MUCH BETTER!. Granted, its not as low as it was.. and the rear is a bit higher now then the front (which bothers me) BUT its lower than stock, drives a hell of a lot smoother and is a good temporary fix while I ponder the KW coil overs. I may adjust them again in the next few days to find the perfect balance. So.. to those that hate aftermarket springs.. make sure you trial and error the rear links. Adjust them, drive it around and find the perfect balance of smoothness and aesthetic. I swear, I can't believe how much smoother it drives. Like a new car. Sorry for venting in the original posters thread.. didn't want to create a new thread since he hates them as well.
