X5 tire replacement
I have a 2007 X5 with the optional 20s. The tires are dunlop sportmaxx runflats. I really like the tire and seem to perform pretty well on such aheavy vehicle. Problem is they are 500 a piece. What other options have people tried with success on their X5 or X6? I would prefer a performance summer tire like this but am not really wanting runflats again particularly. I do drive in the snow at times 120 mile round trip to work. Did this last year on the dunlops with not too much issue. Any suggestions would help. Did try and PM ben but doesn't take them.

I have had 20" dunlops Rf's on 4 of my e70 X5's, this latest X5 has Bridgestones Rf's (20") and they don't grip as well. The Dunlops I believe are a better tyre.

That is the other tire I was considering. I am worried that it will not perform as well in dry but probably will be better in rain and snow and cost half.

I'd also vote for the Conti's. I have the staggered 20's as well and they are absolutely fantastic. I'm assuming that I see more weather changes than you, which is why this tire was so appealing. It is very good to excellent in everything but the snow. Anything more than about 1 cm of snow and they are no better than any all season.

Thanks. A all season is gonna be better than a high performance summer though. Sounds like this may be the direction to head. They still handle well in dry weather? Never owned an all season tire before always opted for most aggressive I could get.

They are very, very good on dry pavement. Far better than any all season tire that I've driven on.

feel a little weird about trying our a mismatched set. run flat rear dulops and non run flat front contis. not like i take it to the track or anything. will see how it works out if its bad i will just add the rears.

ive had mismatched on my M3 several times and ive never noticed anything in terms of handling or stability. this being twice as heavy and much larger, I cant say it will be the same, but I dont see an issue.

Yeah I would never mismatch on my m3, rely on the handling too much for that but with the x5 don't really care as much. Front end might just push a little more if I'm getting after it

What kind of mileage can I expect out of the dunlops. I just noticed that the rears are both corded pretty bad on the inside edge. I bought my x5 used and have put 17K on them since then and they were already half worn. I would guess they have 25-30K on em? Why are they so worn on the inside edge in the rear and outside on the fronts. Sounds like a civic spring chop lowering that affected my camber? Its not lowered though.

The fronts rounding on the oustide edge is normal, due to steering/turning. The rears sound like factory alignment specs = aggressive camber. Get an alignment for even tread wear and your new set of rears will be fine.

I mean when you drive in the snow with dunlops 20s- what do you think ? Is that OK to drive in the snow with dunlops 20s? |

Fun if you enjoy sliding around and practicing car control, I do. Never really had any issues except driving too fast on the freeway in the snow. Then it just got pushed and pulled around and had to be patient waiting for grip to return and make proper steering adjustments.

Anyone with experience with the bridgestones since the rears for the contis are backordered now for until november?

I have the Bridgestone Dueler H/P Sports for 20" wheels and they are loud - lots of road noise. But, I think they handle nicely. I've gotten used to the noise and don't even notice it anymore.

This sucks. Why all the backorders all the time? I was set on the contis and now have half a set and can't wait because my rears are corded.

finally sourced a set of rear contis to match the fronts and had them installed today. havent driven much so cant comment on that but does give the vehicle a less aggressive look due to the snow tire look instead of the more sport oriented dunlops. hopefully i get used to it.
