IE: that kink weather invented by BMW or not (the article never claimed as such and neither would any student of automotive design), has not been used by every subsequent model by any other brand since its inception... so no grasping at straws here? Evolution of BMW Hoffmeister kink in 335Li 328Li
What do you all think of the evolved Hoffmeister kink on new BMWs?
I was quite surprised by this on the LWB versions of the F30 335 / 328i in China. |

I fear I shall never get an answer though; even a response to such a question would counter-prove the aforementioned 'haters' own argument... "grasping at straws" ![]() |

There's your reply. ![]() I'm no hater, I just find it comical that this thread even exists "OMG, BMW designed this turn in the trim of a window...everyone is Copying them, WOW, what a visionary"....that's just silly talk. How can you be sure that Mr Hofmeister didn't just "copy" the design of the 1957 Chevy? or some other old car that has yet to be mentioned. Designers of all cars use other cars as one point of their inspiration...saying that "everyone is copying BMW" is just an arrogant comment that I find hilarious. (I enjoy our BMW, and am planning on buying another...they are great cars...but this thread just made me laugh.) |

When it comes to design trends,BMW is definitely the leader.
And when it comes to new concepts, Mercedes is the leader,Crossover, retractable hard top, 4 door coupe...even when almost every car manufacturer abandoned the wagon, they stuck with it.

I dont think all of these are copies, the Altima is really similar though. The A7 looks nothing like the BMW kink IMO. I agree though the kink is one of BMW's best features. For me the roofline is one of the most important parts of the car.
