First door ding

People really annoy me when they have no consideration for your property. Wife had the car parked at work and noticed this...X6 is only a few weeks old.

I really don't understand the bad behavior -- but it is everywhere! People seem to care less for other people more and more.

I'm just keeping tabs on this for the sake of seeing nyalpine90's avatar every once in a while. Oh and I hate door dings.

People really don't care. I have an X6M (2012) now but with my old X5 I will was literally sitting in it waiting for my wife to get out of a store and a middle aged woman parked on the passenger side with her two door Solara or something similar. She opened the door and bang right in to the passenger front door pretty hard. I yelled WTF and she literally shrugged and kept walking. No respect.

PDR Rocks

I had a shopping cart roll across an entire lot and hit my X6 (That's what I get for parking in the back). Worse, I was in the car not paying attention. My kids got to learn some new words and I pleaded with my wife to get the HELL out of the store ASAP. My door "dent" was far worse than yours and the PDR guy got it all back to perfect. The key is that you appear to not have any paint damage which is perfect.

I make it a habit to park on the far side of ANY parking lot in an attempt to avoid door dings like the OP had to experience unfortunately. The sad thing is, no matter how many precautions we may take, we have to face the facts that there are people out there who don't take car care as seriously as people like us. They just don't think it's a big deal.

OP, the first scratch or dent is always heart breaking... we all feel your pain.

Thanks for all the support! I usually try to park way out of harms way but it seems people just want to ruin your day

Well I got most of the paint off and now to find a good PDR guy. I think my dealer has one...

That was my problem - I parked so far away from everyone that the shopping cart that was left out in the open, just picked up more and more speed before it hit me (was windy that day - not crazy windy, but windy). So by parking out in the middle of nowhere (heck, even dropped my wife off and drove out to the edge of the Earth), I made my ding FAR worse. You can't win

Still, the ding (was more of a dent) was right on the crease and I thought the PDR guy would have an issue - turns out the hood (another story) is harder to fix.

Interesting! My ding is exactly at the same spot, crease of the passenger door.

Anyone have any recommendations for a good PDR guy in Westchester, NY?? Or nearby...

The dealer's guy is probably good - albeit expensive. I have a guy I use in Chicago but he is really busy, so I just had the dealer do it. Figure double what an independent would charge (dealer marks up 100% I think). I can't remember individually the costs, but I think my door and hood (piece of something flew off a camper and created small dings near the roundel) cost $400 total. When I told my regular guy what they charged me he was shocked. So I would go out on the forums here (probably not the X6 ones as they don't have too many visitors) and ask for a good PDR guy/gal.

Sorry to hear that, Doug_999. I know how much it stings when we go through great lengths to keep our cars in top condition inside and out, but due to no fault of our own, some sort of mishap causes damage.

I am the type to accept the blame and carry on if I did something to damage anything I own, but when the damage is caused by an outsider's negligence or ignorance... lol.

I park my car in the driveway and thought my baby would be safe there, but my first scratches were received by what seems to be a small bicycle ridden by the neighbor's 6-8 year old child on the driver's side. Needless to say I was furious and heart broken at the same time. The first is the worst...

Ouch. Sorry to hear, I would be pretty pissed for a couple weeks. The sad part is that if you had an X5 or an older BMW, the impact strips would've taken the damage. I wish BMW stopped phasing those out for the sake of looks....

Interesting point..... as much as I do NOT like the look of those impact strips, you are right in the fact that they would have protected 3 of the the forum users (including myself) who posted about their scratches/dents, from the expensive cosmetic damage our cars have suffered.

Well looks like my BMW dealer has a guy onsite that will do 3 dings per panel for $150. I now recall I did use them quite some time ago to fix some hail damage on my 330 and he did an excellent job.

On another note, I never know this, but most parking lots have insurance to cover this type of damage...hmmm
