BIMMERPOST NEWS First Look at Interior of 2014 BMW X5 (F15). Touchpad iDrive Button Spotted The next generation 2014 X5 (F15) continues its cold weather testing and our spies have spotted the F15 interior for the first time. Below are images of two different prototype X5s, each having different gauges and iDrive buttons. It seems that final designs on those two parts have not yet been finalized and are still undergoing evaluation. The first design seen below shows a larger iDrive button design which features a touchpad surface on top. This dash also features a full black panel display. Following on the design of the new 6 series (F12/13), 1 series hatchback (F20/21) and new 3 series (F30), the next X5 will feature a large free-standing navigation/infotainment LCD screen. This screen looks to the 8.8 inch panel used in the 6 series and the all new 3 series. Compared to the current X5 (E70), the new dashboard design has become more driver-centric (angled towards the driver), which has been another design element consistent throughout all the recent new BMW models. It will also be more upright, compared to the current X5's dashboard which angles and curves away sharply from the driver and passenger. We've also included some new (and older) exterior photos. The F15 X5's new grille design will be larger, wider, and bolder than the current X5's. Preliminary info indicates that the hood sits flush with the larger/wider grilles. The headlights are said to be trapezoidal shaped and will connect to the headlights - like the F30 3 series (see sketch below from BMW insider Scott26). The F15 will also adopt many of the new X model design cues from the X3 and X1. The F15 X5 is expected to weigh less than the current E70 X5 and ride on a modified version of the F10 5 series chassis. Expect both diesel and gasoline 6-cylinder and 8-cylinder engine options. The next gen X5 will continue to be manufactured in BMW's Spartanburg, South Carolina plant, and will go on sale in late 2013 as a 2014 model. Love seeing them test the technology! I wish I could do that.

I honestly cannot wait to see the F15 production model. I think the current gen X5 is a beauty.
I hope they really differentiate the front end from the X6 a little more, because in real life situations I can't tell an oncoming X5 from an X6 like I could between the X3 and X5. Not that it's a big deal..I just want to see another gorgeous BMW ![]() |

I like the sketch by Scott the best haha.
Looks like they fixed up the center console area for sure...nicely done. I hope they don't put that awful new start/stop button in the X5. That thing is so busy and ugly!

these black panels are just amazing!
not so sure about the touch idrive...i think you have to look at the screen to see what your fingers are doing...while the mechanical control gives direct feedback !? |

Very interesting render.
Now you can see what I was meaning with the dash mixing current X5 and modern interior trends with the shelf-like upper section of the dash like the BMW 5er Gran Turismo. Yes it is a touchpad iDrive.

I can't wait! I currently drive my favorite E70 X5 3.0si. Like the new navi screen and my dad want 750Li. I'm thinking about the new X5 or the new 750Li. Hard to choose one! Lol

It is good to see that at least the next gen X5 has escaped the butcher's cleaver for the horrific cut-line that has besmirched every other model. Looks like this hood line will be very similar to the current X3.

Upper dashboard appears to be standard soft-touch material. Leather dashboards are becoming a feature in even entry-level American luxury cars (look at the Cadillac ATS, for example), and soft-touch is becoming common in non-luxury brands. Leather dashes add a lot to the interior feel of the car, and I think BMW needs to step their game up and make them a standard part of all their new vehicles, especially more expensive models like the 5 Series and X5 and up.

Good to see some innovation around idrive. Next gen is due to drop in 2014 so this is all in line with that.
Using the current idrive controller I've often thought it would be nice to move from screen to screen simply by swiping the top of the controllers flat surface |

Those arent really the taillights right? Please say no,
Honestly, not a fan of the overall vehicle. I understand it will likely have better technology but something is lost in the styling.
