Engine Partition Replacement
Has anyone tried the knock off China Engine partition parts? Just curious they are about 1/3 the price of oem.

At $42, it's not a very big risk. Go for it, and report back with the results. I ended up breaking off one of my eyelets when I removed mine to install my H&R's. I was super pissed, as I knew by looking at the part that it wouldn't be a cheap fix.

Of course that's with wholesale prices but it seems dealers charge differently. I paid only around 65 dollars for everything. Was that 200 installed at the dealer ? |

Guys I just looked at the images again from eBay and the design is the old design.
BMW has released a new design that has superseded this. Even the BMW Origanal parts on eBay that people where selling is of the old design. Go ahead and change the part but it will break again. And you'll probably have water leakage. The new design improved on the issues with the old design. I'll see if I can scrounge up my old photos I took of the design changes. |

Does the revised design have different part numbers? Kinda confusing if the part numbers are the same. Ou never know which one you may get. Also, shouldn't BMW be replacing these for us if they are breaking, leaking, and havevalready been revised?

Maybe different dealers have different prices. Who knows! But that's what I paid. |

You would think so. I think the parts have been superseded and you can't get the old parts anymore unless the dealer had old parts their trying to offload or if a seller has the old parts. The dealer won't or should not give you the old parts.

I think only the middle piece has been updated by BMW, and the side pieces are the same (or very similar). I imagine one could get this Chinese set and the middle piece from the dealer and still save $50 or so.

I just installed my $42 Chinese knock off yesterday. Went on good. Just had to punch the screw holes open since they don't do any finishing at the Chinese factory apparently. Took forever to ship though. Longest shipping from China I have ever had.
I will take a picture tomorrow. |

Just an FYI. My pieces were all cracked like everyone else's. I had the Engine Malfunction - Reduced Power message again on my car and it was because of these broken pieces. There ended up being water in 2 of the Spark Plug holes and I was getting misfires. $200+ at the dealer for the partition pieces and install.
If you have broken pieces... at least take a chance on the $45 ones! It will save you a lot of money in the future!

Otherwise if you plan on keeping the vehicle for more than a few years then replacing with the new OEM parts are probably good but I recon most people will probably keep this vehicle for a couple years and trade it on something newer so paying the premium isn't worth it. But just a personal thing for me, not going to put Chinese parts on the vehicle as long as I can help it if it's only a few bucks more. Especially if their was an improvement made however small. . |

Do you have the BMW part numbers for the new parts, I looked at realoem and it only shows the original parts? I'm planning to keep my '08 4.8 forever, so spending the extra $$s makes sense for me. Thanks, John
