Mercedes does not have a diesel wagon though.... I like my primary wagon to be large-ish. Thus I have the E61 currently because it's fun as a 6 spd and the inline 6 with Dinan Stage 2 is fast yet still rather fuel efficient. Whoever brings the next diesel wagon will get my business. I know it won't be Audi but it may be BMW or Mercedes. I like that the current MB E350 is a great size for big trips and hauling stuff, similar to the E61/F10 5 series. The next 3 wagon however will be larger than the 2007 328iT6 Sport Wagon, 6spd I bought new in 2007 but later sold for a more capable wagon.

Excellent News - but why no 1er?
Driving a 2010 A3 TDI - nice, but just no BMW
Was really hoping we'd see the F20 120d coming to the US for 2013. I'm ready-willing-able to place my ED order. Please BMW, sell me this car |

Enthusiest love the Deisels, because they make sense...but noone really asks for them except for people who have owned deisels in the past. BMW along with other german makers have strayed away for years and I belive will release these cars very cautiosly and in low numbers, just like the wagon. The American market is an illogical behaving market because its filled with stupid Americans who think wagons are lame and deisels are loud and stupid.

Having said that, make mine an F31 with 6 cyl, 8AT, Mpack, CWP and HUD. Will only be slightly less efficient than 4cyl since my drive is mostly highway, yet still have all the torque I'll ever need. Also more refinement too. FYI, checked the BMW UK website, and while I know their testing procedure is different than EPA, they are claiming that the F31 330d will do 46 US MPG combined cycle! This is too exciting

Back a few years ago I drove an X3 diesel manual around France for a few weeks and wanted to punch myself in the groin. Just when the fun starts as the revs rise, it ends abruptly. Shift shift shift. I can't think of a driving experience more opposite than say, the holy grail of bimmers, the E30 M3. I'm not a diesel hater, just don't think most people have driven a manual one.

Audi and BMW do not really want to sell diesels, People who would buy diesels obviously are cost conscious, if the price of gas is an important factor when you buy a car, are you going to buy the most expensive one?? that is why the 335d did not sell well, I can also predict the same fate for the Active Hybrid...
Looking at Audi's plan, they are going to release diesel engines in the A4, which I think would be their prime market, last with the next gen model... (after A6,A8..)Way to go. If you want Diesels to be popular, they have to be available on your entry level cars it's that simple. My next car will be an oil burner, depending on how BMW Canada is going to roll out here, I might go to Mazda as an other option.

Not sure what you consider the R class then? Definitely not a sedan and not a true wagon like the E-class. Maybe more minivanish, but provides everything that a wagon does. (And for the record, I wouldn't get near one...lol )

The cheaper cost of premium diesel and improved fuel economy is a "nice" benefit of choosing this engine, but not the driving factor around choosing it. |

The 3er wagon in the US has never had the 'big' gas engine...why would they put the big diesel in it? I'm guessing the 320d motor only for the US...:sadbanana

The price of gas in europe is 2$+ a liter, and 90% of what you see on the streets is the smaller diesel engines. The day we pay the same here the choice will be natural.

Went on the German BMW site to compare prices. I am focusing on the 320d Touring (f31). The premium for a wagon is Eur 1,750 (about $2,300) while the 320d is about Eur 2,050 cheaper ($2,650) than the 328i. That makes a 320d Touring Eur 300 cheaper than the 328i (f30) sedan!. Whether, BMW will apply this pricing difference in the US... Let's hope so, I think its competitive. Note that the 330d is Eur 6,790 ($8,800 !!) more expensive than the 320d.

I only have one question:
Is the 550d tri-turbo part of the US release??
