Question for 2011 owners

Does the LCI have the gas strut for the spare tire compartment cover? Thanks.

No...My 2011 50i does not have a strut for the spare tire cover. Why do you ask? Is that going to be a deal breaker?

Not a deal breaker, but I am going to remove it from my 2008 X5 and use it on my new 2011 5.0. Don't tell the dealer.

MTVIEW,

I have an LCI which has a gas strut for the spare tyre compartment cover. It is a Euro spec car so that may make a difference.

I dont have it- (October/010 production)- I dont think any of the USA production models get the gas strut- the holes are there for mounting- and the platform is there to mount the strut end to- just no shock- it really seems a little ridiculous that they would leave it off-

Anyone know of a retrofit kit for North American models? Not a necessity but it'd be cool to install if the price was worthwhile. My 11' definitely does not have it... I didn't even know I wanted one till now. hehe

Just recently ordered all the parts from Tischer and installed them.
$66 delivered.
Easiest mod in the book and wife loves not getting her hands smashed.

Part Numbers below:

1x gas damper = 51479149120
1x bracket = 51479138212
4x screw = 07129903027 in case you want original screws

Now that's just brilliant! Expecially with that cargo hold being so big/deep, I couldn't figure out why there was no way to keep it open.

Thanks, Iron for the part numbers & pricing!
