*Help* Drivetrain detonated

Back story. 2011 BMW x5. 63k miles, warranty expired 6 months ago.

1.) Replaced Fuel Pump 02/15
2.) Need to replace belt, belt tensioner, crank, oil gasket. Had appointment this week setup.
3.) Yesterday on the highway, U Joint Failed, Driveshaft broke free and destroyed oil pan, then came back and destroyed transmission.

Need to replace belt, belt tensioner, crank, oil gasket, U joint, driveshaft, oil pan, transmission, replace all oil.

Has anyone experienced this? This is approx 8k, and this is on the low end. My car is essentially tottaled out. Does anyone have any ideas on how to help me?

I understand that there is a problem. But the problem is BMW knows it's a problem, and I am about to be out of pocket 8-10k. At this point in my life, I am unsure what to do with the car. I can't afford to put the money in, does anyone know anything about scraping a car?

Talk to the dealer and see what BMW will do under goodwill.

I had the same thing happen to me. Had the u joints/drive shaft checked at the dealership and the service mechanic gave the O.K. and i was on my way. Month later the drive shaft broke on the freeway and was towed to the dealership where it was replaced. There was a TSB on weak drive shaft bolts and they should be replaced. It seems that the drive shaft has to break in order to get it fixed. I spoke with my SA which is a friend of mine and he said that all damage would be covered thru BMW. I was lucky, mine was just the drive shaft. A few members here have had major damage such as yours. I believe BMW will cover all damage due to the TSB on the drive shaft. Let us know what the say.

You understand it is a problem, BMW understands it is a problem. So, go after them! Why are you seemingly giving up and started talking about scrapping? I don't get it..

Worst case, you would need a lawyer. But it does look like an easy case. TSB is there, precedence is there..

This will be covered as this is a recall. Call BMW USA and have this sorted.

Car is currently en route to BMW. Their first service guy pretty much said sorry, soooo I talked to the General Manager, Service Manager's, said to bring it in and they will look at it today. Fingers crossed, this was a bad failure. No to mention these guys were extremely nice and helpful. Curious to see what they say about my oil gasket, and crank, belt and belt tensioner.

Said he pulled records, they did look at my bolts while it was under warranty and gave a all clear. I assure you if the bolts fail you will hear it. Sounded like a bomb went off, and literally shook the car violently. I instantly pulled off the road and shut it down.

I will keep this updated....Needless to say after this is taken care of, I am trading the car in for a 4Runner, or a 3 series that is CPO AND WARRANTY...Being 24 years old and going through this much to keep my car on the road isn't feasible anymore. I love my bmw, and want to keep it, but just can't justify it anymore

How is that helping the OP at all? A search would have yielded a plethora of information. It is not like anyone here is going to go and take care of this problem for him, a search would yield what others have done. Is that not helpful or is the expectation that others get to retype what they have posted before in this new thread?

Exactly! Nuf said.

I wasn't going to say anything at first, but this poster (pullmychamb) scammed me on a $300 payment two years ago for a set of X5 running boards (see his original post here - http://www.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=884635).

Paypal, Visa and American Express were involved ... all 3 of them concluded that the scam was very sophisticated and involved a friend of his, also from South Carolina ...

Caveat Emptor!

Any reason why you have changed/deleted your post at least three times?

As they say, when you tell the truth, the story remains the same.

First it was that PAX5 was trying to scam you. The second was that PayPal had a mixup and eventually it all worked out and now it is just "false" for a post.

How is it that the alleged scammer remains on this forum? Did you request he be banned?

It happened 1.5 years ago. Pax5 received his product, and his money. Case closed. Tired of hearing it, that's why I kept editing my post. I wasn't even going to waste my time in replying to what he said.

If I was a scammer, why would I ..

1.) Use my real telephone numb
2.) Use my real name
3.) Use my real email addy
4.) Use my real home address to receive the running boards
5.) Constantly emailed him back, and answered all calls relating to the incident.

Paypal sided with me with the first round of dispute. Something happened on our side with the refund of the 300 dollars and we still do not know how or why. In the end, Gerald GOT his 300 dollars and his PRODUCT that was shipped to him, Case Closed.
