X5/6M Brake Pad options

I'm in market for new front brake pads but Hawk HPS, Endless, Performance Friction etc. of popular good bite/low dust pads are not available for X5/6M.

Do you guys have any recommendations?

Subscribed.

I've had good luck with EBC Red stuff but I don't think they make sizes for the x5/6M.

Is there 4 pads per caliper in the front?

no matter how many pistons the caliper has, they are usually 2 pads per caliper..lol
I think EBC redstuff does have a pads for the X5M/X6M with the following parts number
Front: DP32091C
Rear: DP32008C
I just sent them an email and waiting for them to confirm. I am sick of the dust

I just got an email back from EBC and here is what they said:

If you have the 4.4 twin turbo, 2010 and up, non hybrid. This is correct
I guess they don't realize that both the 5.0 and M also has 4.4 twin turbo

Awesome. Let me know if they perform better than OEMs. When I had them in my last vehicle, I had to warm them to temp before they stopped squealing. After that, they bit hard.

I want some low dust brake pads too, but I have heard that the pads are hard on the rotors and the rotors will need to be replaced sooner. Does anybody know if this is true???

Not really. Even BMW dealer measure rotors and if they pass the min. requirement spec/thickness, they only replace pads and sensors. So it's not all true.

Im also looking for low dust pads as im tired of the dust also. Are these pads for the X5 50 also or, are they just for the X5M. Please clarify. There site specifically list the X5M and not the X5 50. I was just thinking about putting these on the front since that's where all of the dust shows up. The rears don't dust that bad. Has anyone left the rears alone and just replaced the pads on the front? is this frowned upon?

Looks like EBC is out of front pads at the moment (contacted 3-4 different shops but no one has front pads in stock)so I will only get rear pads (shipped already) for now.
Can I install only rear pads or do I need to wait till front pads arrives? (I'm just wondering if I need to have all 4 in same brand pads like tires or not)

sure you can run different pad front and back, but the oem rear pad doesn't produce that much dust like the front.

Update:
Bad news- I contacted EBC brake USA, Inc. directly to see when they'll have the front pads in stock.
They say the front pad is not released yet and no retailer should sell the pads since it's not been produced yet. They say it could be 1 - 2 months. So we have to wait and see until EBC actually makes and ships the pads to US...

Hi Isugoo,

I read your post above. My brakes are 3000 miles from replacing per the sensors, even though the pads are at 5mm remaining and the dealer states.

Did the dealer actually only replace pads in your X5M in the past?

I am thinking of doing just pads and sensors on mine, since I am about to come out of warranty in a few days.

Let me know if you have any thoughts on this.

They only replaced front pads and the sensor (not the rotors).
If you have a good relationship with your SA, he can hook you up for the last warranty service. Or try to complain of noise or steering vibration when stopping.

Thanks for your reply!

I already tried to sway them but they would not budge.

The sensor is indicating 3000 miles but the pads are only 1/2 worn. The rotors look new. I think I will do the pads and sensors at an Indy shop once the sensors indicate 0 miles, and go for rotors in a year if a noise becomes apparent.

Try Akebono Ceramic

Go to their website and use their on-line catalog. The search for the pads on google, amazon and ebay.

Low dust and they will last a long time.

I suggest if you want performance, and like performance, you avoid a ceramic pad. However for the more performance oriented folks try stoptech street performance or hawk HP Plus pads.

The trade off of a performance pad is almost always dust and an occasional squeak when cold or wet

The important thing is nobody makes aftermarket front pads for x5m.

Hawk Performance and a few others can take your worn down pad, and put whatever new compound on it, the dtc70 or at least an hp plus on there would be yummy...

Carbotech has M pads, very good pads. As a normal application. They also do custom pads.

PFC can do custom too.

I'd like to bring this thread up and see if anyone has any new info on aftermarket (low dust) pads for the X5/X6 M.

How can such a high performance vehicle have such a limited aftermarket?!?
