2013 E70 a/c issue - foxwell. A72F JBE Compressor clutch
A/C not working intermittently. Clutch not engaging. A tech suggested the compressor needs to be replaced. He also suggested that the pulley could seize and destroy the belt. Are they diagnostic procedures to verify the bad compressor? Foxwell seems to have only limited data.

The Mechanic is correct. I got the same fault and had the same intermittent AC not working. Replacing the compressor was the fix.
Mine has the N63 engine which has the auxiliary belt, over time the compressor did seize and destroyed the stretch belt. It was just before winter so I left it until spring then replaced it myself.

My vehicle has the n55 engine. The AC compressor is driven directly from the serpentine belt. Any suggestions on the best way to access the compressor? From up above or down below?
That belt failed on me once before after oil from the oil filter housing gasket leaked onto the belt. Left me stranded on one of the most remote mountain roads in Vermont. I don't want to repeat of that experience. Last edited by adkNY; 08-23-2024 at 09:59 AM.. |

Looks like its pretty accessible from the top, the below video is of an e90 but the e70 will be the same. I used 'Chris-Fix's' AC Recharge video as a DIY to refilling the refrigerant. I used the old school method to evacuate the existing AC system and if you don't know the old school method its the method of taking it to a shop to be evacuated.

Thanks, I ordered hey denso compressor and serpentine belt from FCP Euro. I'll have my local mechanic install it. They're not BMW specialists but this looks fairly generic and they have the AC charging equipment.
I saw another video of a 2013 X6 N55 engine. That showed that he could remove the compressor without pulling the alternator. It's amazing how dependent we are on car air conditioners. When I grew up AC was an expensive option and it was rare for cars to have that option. Butterfly windows were awesome. |

Denso compressor from FCPEuro $470. Labor+ evacuation and charge. $450.
Works great! |
