M Performance Power Kit questions

Can the M Performance Power Kit be purchased online from a OEM discount supplier and be installed by my local dealer? Or does it have to be purchased from the same dealer that is installing the software update? Has anyone done the upgrade and brought in the kit to their dealer to have it installed?

I bought the PPK1 from Tischer and had it installed at my local dealer.

My dealer laughed at the idea of installing something not purchased through them. I'd ask the dealer to be sure.

You should have gone to BMW Seattle then. They had zero issues installing it for me. I did pay for the 2 hours it takes to perform the software load but that is expected.

Driving impressions? Is it worth the money?

I like it. The added power is definitely noticeable and I love the exhaust burble change. It will not give you the kind of power that a JB4 or COBB will but this is fully covered by warranty. As for being worth the money, that is up to you. To me it was as the warranty was important to me and I wanted that extra bit of uumph.

You have to have the right engine configuration. Comes with the sport models. It includes a OEM oil cooler.

PPK does not come with the sport pack.

I think you are thinking of the Performance Edition.

I think he was saying you have to have the OEM oil cooler installed in order to have the PPK installed. This is true. The oil cooler typically came on the sport models but on some cars you also had to have the 18" wheels as well. The best way to know if you have the oil cooler is to look in front of your passenger side wheel in the wheel well. If you have a grating and can see the cooler, you have it.

JW,

That's exactly what I meant. Tisher will require the vin number to check and see if your car can use it.

Thanks for the replies. I think I'm going to get the performance edition package and install the grilles myself and have the dealer do the software upgrade.

PPK is a nice upgrade and is factory-smooth and warranty friendly. BUT, and this is a huuuge but, it does nothing for the N55 falling on its face above 5000rpm. If that is what annoys you about your car, this will not cure it. If you love the N55 as is, the PPK will just be more to love. I bought the PPK hoping it would 'cure' what I hated about the engine and it did nothing to address what the real issue was.

PPK is good but COBB is better.
On my N54, I tried to get the PPK and they had issues with my DME and could not install.

I bought a COBB.
Have had a ton of warranty work done. Just 20 minutes to remove it.
I have actually removed it after my car died and was waiting for a tow to the dealer.
Dealer can only see the DME being reset and no codes.
Ususally you will need to remove it then get the codes back. If it's real bad they come right back.

Anyway, the PPK is cool and no warranty issues.
A COBB is the next step up and easy to remove.
