E70 X5 rear big brake
Hi Folks,
I've managed to get X5m brakes for the front of my 3.0 diesel, with 22s going on i'm considering options to do the rears too. What's available? as I understand the X5m rear's can not be retrofitted. Apart from the usual BBKs from D2 racing, and other Taiwanese brake makers is there anything else to consider? Thanks! |

Brake bias. Factor that into your criteria. You don't just slap on any old big brake kit, it could have disastrous consequences if the bias is wrong.
Are you doing this for bling or legitimate performance needs? |

And painted/powder coated calipers and some perhaps custom rotors from https://www.adamsrotors.com/ are not enough?
Seriously, I'm all for aesthetics as much as the next guy, but it has to be functional, and safe. If the braking system is not matched, you could put too much braking effort up front, and the rear lifts, and you have oversteer. Or too much in the rear won't lock up the brakes with ABS and such, but will make the car most likely INCREASING braking distances. Which is counter intuitive to this whole exercise. This may be out of your comfort zone (Let alone digging up this info painful), but there are online calculators to calculate brake bias, when knowing the piston sizes, rotors, etc you can see what will happen as you change things. Here's a great example, from really an amazing vendor of Wilwood, which makes some great race and high performance street braking products. http://www.tceperformanceproducts.com/bias-calculator/ |

Totally get that. Stock X5 brakes are 365mm with single pistons vs X5m 395mm 4 pots I have for the front. I'd prefer matching X5m rears but as stated in my op it seems they can not be retrofitted. Therefore i'm seeking another alternative, stock rears will heavily throw out the balance but there's a good handful of folks running just retrofitted X5m fronts and are plenty happy with results, i'd prefer something little beefier to help aid aesthetics too.

I would leave the OEM rears but paint them to match and maybe match some Adams rotors all around. A mismatched kit or another brand of calipers from a big brake kit would look worse than the OEM rears in my opinion.
