Just got a 2011 x5m few questions
Hey guys, I just got a new to me but used X5M Carbon Black with blaack leather interior.
Few questions, I know these motors are loud im used to it but is it normal hearing a swooshing clicking noise when accelerating? It only happens when i accelerate, not when im off the gas cruising. Also the parking brake light came on while i was driving but was not engaged and it went away after i turned the car off and then on again? Please let me know if this is normal or not since ill need to be tell the dealer i bought it from since its under their 60 day 3k mile warranty before my other warranty begins. I was going to bring it in to bmw for the recalls Airbag driveshaft and fuel pump, but i wanted to know if this is something i should bring to the dealer i bought it from first? Few pics attached of it not the clearest of pics( and yes that license plate holder was removed and looks much cleaner with out it) front bumper needs to be repainted Thanks Guys |

You'd almost have to post a video or sound clip for the noise.
Parking lights could be set on automatic...check the knob position, the iDrive screen or maybe someone did some coding to the lights. |

i tried to get a video but couldnt it sounds like pure wind. its hard to describe its a swooshjing ticking noise, i thought it could be an exhaust leak but its tough to say it only makes the noise when i accelerate. I dont think its normal since i can hear it while im driving pretty well when the windows are open. i even tried to take a video of it by just reving but it wasnt coming up in the video
i thjink i might have to leave this to bmw since a video is hard to do By parking light i meant ebrake parking light on the dashboard sorry for the mix up. It threw up a message saying parking brake may not work and to engage in P instead? but its gone now to so i hope it was a fluke |

Is it two different noises? Like the turbo swooshing and the lifters clicking?

When you accelerate hard and have the AC on, is there a faint hint of exhaust fumes? I had this issue when I first got the X5M and it turned out to be the crankcase vent valves which needed to be replaced.
However, the sound I heard was more of a subdued chirp rather than a tick. If it is ticking noises, it's the injectors which are known to be loud in this car. |

As far as exhaust fumes goes I dont get a smell at all since ive been driving with ac on high and accelerate hard. dam i wish i can take a video of it but my friend did compare it to as a chirp swooshing noise yesterday and says it sounds like that instead of a loud tick. I wonder if it could be that as well. I have an appointment at bmw for friday and im hoping they can get to the bottom of it.
i know these motor are tick heavy but i dont think everytime i accelerate or rev up a bit i should be hearing this one extra sound |

This might be a stretch but my exhaust is making a chirping noise...ends up one of the zip ties I used to hold the exhaust valves open had broken off. The vacuum system itself was deleted before I bought it, so only spring pressure is holding the valve closed now and it's not doing a good job at it.

It is definately more like a tick noise i have just concluded that today.
I also dropped it off at the dealer for inspection and oil change and powersteering fluid change. I was going to do the oil myself but they offer to do it for 130 so i decided to go with them for this time. Will update with more info as this goes. |

The audible ticking is likely your injectors, which we do have loud injectors.
Re the swoosh, could be turbo but not sure as our cars' turbo noise is pretty muted bone stock. |

ok sorry for the late reply i got the car back recently and although they said the ticking was normal i dont hear it anymore :\ They did do the fuel injector recall and driveshaft recall so i think one of them fixed it. Good thing is i only have one issue which was a Ghost code of the fuel pressure low sensor and the line they said. It was a $750 job but i dont know if its still something i should be worried since it is a ghost code.
Car is running smooth and im more at ease knowing there isnt anything major with the car. |

This is incorrect. I have a 2011 X5 M, production date 15/11/2010 and it does not fall under this recall - extended warranty only.
