When i picked up the car i was told to take it easy for the first 1200 miles until the car fully breaks-in. I'm at about 1190 miles and I called the dealer where I got the x5m to make an appointment for the break-in maintenance but was then told that i don't have to come in until the regular oil change time of ~12,000-15,000 miles, (whenever the iDrive tells me to change oil).

Have any of you x5m/x6m owners done the break-in maintenance on your x5m or do you just wait until regular oil change time?

Any help would be greatly appreciated
That is the way it works. You bring it in when the car tells you to. Mine was around 15K miles for first change. Am at 25K now and will bring it in for 30K service before the oil needs changing based on what my car is telling me. I do 90% highway driving.....Steve
