Definitely remove the sensors first to give yourself as much room as possible. And like I said, I think the subframe has to come down if you want to salvage the DPF. Hopefully someone else who's done this on an X5 can chime in, but I just don't know how I could've gotten the DPF out intact with just the motor mount/bracket removed...then again, I'm a shade tree mechanic and not a pro so keep that in mind.
