I decided to add the escort 9500ci radar detector to my X6 and after watching the installation videos and reading all I could, I am thinking of installing it myself. I can afford to have it done but want to do it myself as a way of making sure I can "still get my hands dirty". I have a few physical limitations (I can't bend like a monkey anymore but manage to get things done) but I was able to add aftermarket rear view camera to my x5, took me longer than most but it got done.

So the questions:
has anyone run wires through the firewall, if so did you use an existing grommet or drill new hole (trying to avoid drilling holes).

is there a trick to removing the panel above the passenger foot well to gain access to wires coming from engine compartment ? or better place ?

I was thinking of running power wire from fuse box in rear to front passenger side to power the control module or do you think I should mount control module in rear by fuse box.

finally if anyone has installed one of these, any tips or tricks.
like where did you put miniature controller and text display, again trying not to drill holes and use the adhesive back.
