I say go for it! The 4.6is is a bit less refined than the 4.8is...it feels untamed. This is a great thing if you're into performance and modding as there's loads of options, for example, Dinan. There's interesting and exclusive history behind the development of the 4.6is.

They can be expensive to maintain, however there's always the option of 3rd party warranty. Service I & II intervals are at 30k & 60k. I suggest signing up at X5world.com and doing a search, there's loads of extensive info.
