Have to disagree with you on this Chuck, I put aftermarket camera in my X5 , it wasn't infrared but it had very good quality at night with just the backup lights from the X5.
I can live with the X6 camera if it would just turn on immediately when I put it in reverse as the one in my X5 did (it was triggered by a relay connected to reverse lights).
I think BMW can do a lot better than they have done here, hopefully this will be a idrive update sometime in the not to distant future.
