Your right at the mileage when the big repair bills will hit. Typically you'll need valve stem seals, most engine bay plastic items replaced, and oil leaks. There is a reason a lot of places wont warranty any X5, as they age they take a lot of money to keep on the road.
I would not own a 50i out of warranty if you can't repair it yourself. Sure an indy can drive down the cost, but valve stem seals are minimum $2500 most places more like 3K. Rear main seal 2K, etc.
I have an AutoNation gold extended warranty on my 2011 X5M. Worth its weight in gold. Its covered already more than 2x what I paid for it.
