I do know that my wifes 2006 330 came from Germany tuned as a German car.
It went like hell and mpg was great, then we received a notice from BMW stating we had to take it to a dealer for a software download or the car would not be able to be registered. Well we took it in, after the download not as much zoom and mpg was less than before. So I think somethings do get tweaked for the US market.
This may explain the "BS" mpg that we've heard. I will be curious what you find out.
