Not too bad looking at all! Glad you were able to 'prove your innocence' to the warranty company.
My theory is, and this applies to almost all cars, a redline is there for a reason. The engineers have designed the motor to be safely operated up until that limit, past that limit, nothing is guaranteed. Seems pretty black & white, I take my vehicles up to redline quite frequently.
Additionally, as noted in many other forums, the oil change intervals recommended by BMW are quite insane. While I agree that they can be prolonged, and that the oil does do its job cleaning & lubricating, the intervals could safely be cut in half for the sake of longevity.
