And the N57D30OL (35d) is STILL used here in Europe. The N57D30TOP (40d) is used in the X6/X5 and 740d. 5 series and others use this (35d) engine.
You are probably correct for Europe, but not for the USA. Everything points to the USA getting the M57 for the 35d, with the dual inline turbos, single air intake, 6-speed transmission, etc. The 40d gets the N57 with the newer "twin-scroll" turbos, dual air intakes, 8-speed, and so on. It's not a direct swap, although that's not saying it can't be done. The question may be more of whether they will spend the money to have the new engine and transmission certified for the USA, especially with the next generation X5 due in a couple of years.
