I'm confused about people hoping for the 40d to appear in the U.S. Isn't that just a different designation for vehicles the same engine (N57) that we get in the 35d, except mated to the 8 speed transmission instead of the 6 speed? The specs for the 40d are a little better, but that could just be different tuning or different rating methods used in different markets. The older 3.0 liter Diesel (M57) is marketed as the 3.0sd elsewhere, but I don't think that's the engine sold in the U.S. 35d models, is it? As far as I can tell 40d = N57 + 8 speed.
