So, I began to smell a bit of oil burning...
after a short search, I located the source. The connecting tube was leaving residue on the metal bracket that is over the Turbos.
It would seem that removing the engine cover does not help in anyway to eliminate the hose melting problem.

Is correct, the cost is 28.00 at Getbmwparts. The same part just cost me 44.95 at the local BMW parts Dept.
I would suggest either calling it a maintenance part and replacing in say every 25K. Or have one on hand, so that you don't have to pay inflated prices to keep the tow truck out of your life.
