I personally would avoid service loaner vehicles. Since it's CPO I wouldn't be too bothered I don't think. The checklist of items to qualify for CPO is lengthy so it must have been in good shape to be certified. Again, I'm not saying it was a service loaner at all, but it's a possibility.

I doubt that! But you should call a BMW dealer, or BMWNA, and get the in-service date. That will determine when your warranty expires in terms of age. Heck, I'd call BMW Austin and ask them - tell them you're looking at a used X5 at a local Ford dealer that was originally sold by them, and you want to know the in-service date of the vehicle. And if they give you that, maybe that could explain the Carfax details? Typically you could get that from the Carfax report but it doesn't list the original sale.
