I just had my battery replaced for that same reason. As soon as it got cold, I started getting the increased battery discharge error. I couldn't even open the door to vacuum the car, without getting the battery fail error.
Took it it BMW, and they said the battery wasn't hold more than 30% charge, so they replaced it with the newer AGM battery. No problems since.
