the timing chain is a 8K fix. I wouldn't mess around with it. Is it slightly louder when warm? If you are under warranty, I would do everything in my power to get this taken care of before 50K.
It is louder at idle and after the car warms up it is better and eventually inaudible.

Sounds normal to me. I think the majority of our M's do this. My co workers comment on mine after start up, sounds poopy and like a snake rattler until warm up if that's what your referring too.
