Not sure about the short block replacement, but I'd budget some other $, if possible, for anything else your shop finds with the motor dropped out. Access will be much easier to other potential problem areas, reducing your labor costs by quite a bit. I had 3 or 4 other parts/areas addressed with the motor out, with labor being a 1/3 of normal.
Good luck with the repairs...dang, a liter a week is a lot!
