Common issue on various bmws in my experience. Have it on my m3, and my dads 5 series. Hasn't happened to my x yet, but I'm sure it will eventually. If you look this issue up on either of those cars you'll find plenty of people bringing it up.

Two possible causes as far as I know. One is the filter materiel falls apart and let's debris into the blower fan (this is the case on my dads car). The other I've read is condensation will drip onto the blower fan and cause rust which eventually causes the squealing.
