Few things to try.
1. Force i-drive to restart. Hold down eject button and volume control on drive for more than 10 seconds. i-Drive and other entertainment devices will restart.
2. Try a different "Y-Cable" between car and i-Phone
3. Try another i-Phone or iPod with your car
At least you can eliminate a few things by doing that.
