Trouble with my '02 4.4i with 134k miles

Hello,

A few days ago, my '02 4.4i with 134k mi on the clock complained about a "Transmission Program Failure," set off the DTC and Check Engine Lights, and refused to dial up anything being 25% power. Restarting the car brings everything back to normal, but, the Check Engine light stays on, and the car repeats the condition described above after 20 minutes or so of driving. A local SoCal BMW has inspected the car and provided us with this estimate:

Per your authorization of $240.00 I have inspected your vehicle and have found several things. Therefore, base on our conversation this afternoon, here is a preliminary estimate for your vehicle.

During our inspection we found the following:

Primary Concern:

Check Engine Light: (Thermostat
Failure Appeared in Faults 256 times).

1.Replace Thermostat with upper and lower hoses $805.00, with all hoses and temp sensor $1265.00

There is also a coolant leak in the engine valley tray:

2.Remove and reseal intake and valley $1430.00

Concern Regarding DSC, DBC light

3.Steering Angle Sensor $750.00 Note: It is possible that this might require the replacement of DSC Module if necessary!

CAUTION: It is possible due to the transmissions behavior and the faults found, that replacement of transmission might be necessary. We need to repair the items stated above to find out if this is or isn’t the case.

Secondary Concerns: Not necessarily in order of importance.

1. Valve Cover Gaskets Leaking Oil $850.00
2. Power Steering Hose Leak $485.00
3. Front Control Arm Wishbone & Bushings $1690.00
4 Front Tires $790.00
5. Alignment $250.00
6. Engine Belts and Pulleys $650.00
7. Air Filter Element $45.00
8. Universal Joint (Guibo) $475.00
9. Wiper Blades $25.00
10 Tailight Bulb and Socket $25.00

Please review this estimate and let me know if you would like to repair the vehicle.

ANY SUGGESTIONS? SHOULD WE GET RID OF THIS CAR OR TRY FIXING IT AT A BMW SHOP? THE TRADE-IN VALUE FOR THE CAR FOR FAIR CONDITION IS 8.8K.

THANK YOU!!!
