Thx man! There are several very good reasons to stain it: the brutal Texas SUN being the most reason. But then rain and moisture also. But an often overlooked reason, is bugs and other animals. The stains chemicals are a deterrent to munch on! But I will be going with a lighter shade of stain because I love the "natural look" of wood. Known as semi-transparent stain.
